Parental Couples' Views on Fatherhood
Pavlíček, Michal ; Pavlík, Petr (advisor) ; Havelková, Hana (referee)
This work focuses on the question of contemporary forms of fatherhood and thus responds to the current discussion about the greater involvement of men in childcare and domestic work. This ongoing discussion is closely associated with the equal opportunities for men and women. However, existing research shows that in most czech families the traditional gender division of family roles, which disadvantages women both within family and work life and limits men in fulfilling their parentel role, still prevails. The concept of active fatherhood presents man as an equally competent parent as a woman who is actively and more equally involved in childcare and domestic work. Poromoting this concept should help to eliminate inequalities mentioned above. The Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs of the Czech Republic, in support of active fatherhood, has conducted sociological research "The Forms of Paternity in the Czech Republic". The qualitative research carried out in this work is based on the research areas of the qualitative part of the mentioned research, specifically the part focused on the involvement of fathers in childcare and their ideas about the father's role. Men on parental leave - exemption or a regular thing?
KOŘENSKÁ, Pavla
This Bachelor Thesis deals with the phenomenon of the paternity leave in the Czech Republic as well as in other selected countries of the European Union. The topic is really extensive therefore it is difficult to create a detailed analysis limited in scope. First, the basic models of the family which occurred in the course of history together with the evolutionary changes in the society are characterized. Next, historical development of parental and maternity leave is outlined in the thesis. Important part of the qualification work are the chapters where the role of the father is highlighted together with the development of the fatherhood in the history as well as the role that the father plays in the stages of life of the child by the age of 6; that means until the time when the child is cared about in the family environment and nursery school. Examples of fathers on paternity leave are also emphasized in these chapters. The thesis aims at three countries of the European Union: The Czech Republic, Sweden and France. In the individual countries, family policy, birthrate and general characteristics of the maternity and parental leave are analyzed. The Bachelor Thesis also consists of three map outputs which capture paternity leave "daddy's day" and parental leave, designated for women as well as men, in these states of the European Union. In conclusion, several examples of Czech projects are introduced. These projects come under the auspices of organization The League of Open Men which is trying to help the men who decide to go on paternity leave.
